Mr Lee Jasper former Policy Director to the Mayor of London Ken Livingstone responsible for Policing and Equalities has a unique insight and grasp of the pragmatic difficulties of managing a complex multicultural urban city landscape. With over 25 years experience of delivering a broad range of successful policy initiatives he brings a unique, dynamic and at times controversial perspective to tackling those major challenges facing modern urban cities.
In post at the time of the 7/7 terrorist attacks in London he brings a grounded and experiential perspective in seeking to tackle terrorism and community cohesion. Lee Jasper was key to ensuring a measured and effective policing response that sough to balance security and community relations concerns.
He has spoken in most modern European and American cities on the issues he is passionate about and is regarded as having had remarkable success in relation to the delivery of both policing community safety and equalities policies in London. He is one of Britain’s foremost experts on Police and Community Relations. Lee ensured that London gained an international reputation for the prioritisation and delivery of equality outcomes. He is unique in having led the Greater London Authority in the attainment of Level 5 of the Local Government Equality Standard the only regional government body to do so and one of only three local authorities to achieve this standard. His ground breaking Equality and budget process successfully aligned public sector spending with equalities objectives and brought equalities into the heart of the mainstream budget planning process.
His resume includes an impressive membership list of London strategic bodies that he either chaired or was a leading member. Lee Jasper is known for dynamic policy innovation. He initiated and then chaired London’s Olympic Diversity Forum designed to ensure equality in all aspects of delivery throughout London’s 2012 Olympic games. This is the first Olympic forum of its kind in the entire history of the Olympics movement. He pioneered and successfully developed the most advanced model of supply side diversity in city contracts anywhere outside of the United States
Lee Jasper was founder member and Chair of voter registration campaign group Operation Black Vote UK and Operation Trident Independent Advisory Group the unique police community partnership seeking to tackle black on black gun crime. He was a member of the London Criminal Justice Board with lead responsibility for equalities. He was also chair of London’s Crime and Disorder plus Group whose objective was to deliver inter agency collaboration in reducing crime and ant social behaviour. He chaired London's Anti Social Behaviour Board as well a huge range of other high profile strategic committees.
He is of African and Caribbean descent and has generated more media coverage than any single black person in the United Kingdom. Widely acknowledged as one of the most effective communicators in Britain today he brings vitality, dynaminism, proven experience and passion to his presentation. Often prescient in his comments he brings 21st Century vision to age-old problems. Considered by many to be the one of the most controversial black men in the United Kingdom .
