England fans insult African’s with their racist chant ‘ Rule Britannia” at World Cup 2010

As we watched the vibrancy and warmth of the South African’s warmly welcoming European nations for the 2010 World Cup it bore testimony to the warm hearted generosity of the host nation.

The tension between factions of racist European fans such as the English fans was always going to be an issue. During England’s opening match with the USA that tension emerged as a hard core of English fans expressed their crude racism with the repeated singing of the song ‘ Rule Britannia’ including the deeply offensive and calculated racist insult towards all African

“Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves Briton’s never ever ever shall be slaves”

This song being sung in South Africa is tantamount to spitting in the face of Africans. Its speaks of the sheer contempt that some of the European fans have for Africans and celebrates the ‘ glorious of the British Empire” including the British rule of South Africa itself. The fact that this racist chanting on African soil can be heard by billions of people worldwide is a national embarrassment for English people.

This is no small matter and the FIFA along Fabio Capello and members of the England team should make their opposition to the singing of this song crystal clear.

This rainbow nation whose long struggle against the evils of racism and apartheid gave us a galaxy of heroes and heroines such as Mandela and here I include Winnie Mandela, Joe Slovo, Steve Biko, Denis Goldberg and many more, should not be so publically defiled by a small group of racists and fascists from Europe.

The fact that many of the teams coming from Europe have a hard core of deeply racist fans is probably unknown to the vast majority of South Africans. Teams such as Italy, France, Germany, England and Spain will have attracted supporters whose political views have more in common with racist Boers such as recently murdered leader of the AWB Eugene Terrablanche than with the common anti racist South African.

This cannot simply be ignored and the fact that its England fans who are the culprits should surprise no one. Infiltrated by the likes of the British National Party, English Defense League, Combat 18 and other extreme right wing lunatics England supporters have failed to rid themselves of their racist core element that still defiles the beautiful game.

The vast majority of European fans who reject racism should demand the singing of racist songs by European fans at the World Cup should be stopped immediately.
